Boreal Forest in the News
Forest plan unveiled
July 14, 2008
Queen's Park Bureau – Ontario will protect a huge swath of its northern boreal forest in an effort to fight climate change and save polar bears and other threatened species.
At least 225,000 square kilometres of the boreal forest – an area 1.5 times the size of the Maritimes – will be set aside for permanent protection, Premier Dalton McGuinty announced today.
“It’s our responsibility as global citizens to get this right, and to act now,” McGuinty said.
